Are you too chicken to believe it:
While studying a fossil, scientists had found well preserved soft tissue after dissolving multiple mineral layers on a dinosaur fossil which closely represented a modern-day pregnant bird. Even more surprisingly, a blood vessel was found in one of the neighbouring bones in the fossil. Jack Horner, Professor of palaeontology at Montana State University tested the genes of the soft tissue and discovered that it was closely related to those of a chicken.
Some scientists did several experiments on a well-preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex thigh bone. First, demineralising it, then adding EDTA to turn the stone fossil back into bone. After doing so, scientists tested different assortments of antibodies to discover whether they could find the protein, collagen. Collagen is a major protein that is found in bones and cartilage, leading it to have not evolved much since it was used. Several scientists used a antibody that recognized chicken collagen and it was then that the antibodies found collagen that was very similar to those of chicken. After, they looked at the protein itself and determined that basing it off the chicken antibody that found the collagen, the chicken is the closest relative followed by newts and frogs.
After testing both bones and soft tissue, scientists were left to conclude that dinosaurs were closely related to chickens. Dinosaurs, during the major climate changes before the asteroid hit, must have evolved through many generations to be better adapted to the environment. As stated in the Palaeontology section, the climate limited the vegetation growth and in extent the herbivores which would have greatly impacted the carnivores. After evolving to birds, dinosaurs will unlikely rise again from the DNA found in birds because of the similar situation of climate change happening today.
